Custom 5 Ton Suspended Bridge Crane for Old Plant Renovation – Compensates 30mm Track Deviation
We recently designed a solution for a Central Asian customer’s old plant renovation project – a crane that goes far beyond standard bridge crane capabilities.
Old plant renovations often face many challenges: low headroom, uneven floors, misaligned rails, and limited working space.
We are proud to present this 5 ton suspended bridge crane, specially modified for old plant renovation projects, capable of compensating for center distance variations of up to 30 mm along the entire crane track length.
Customer’s Original Requirements
Type: Suspended bridge crane
Lifting capacity: 5 tons
Lifting height: 8 meters
Span along axes: 12 meters (track center distance ranges from 11,980 mm to 12,030 mm)
Control: Radio remote control
Hoist: Chinese type, 2 speeds
Operating mode: A3 (light to medium duty)
Temperature range: -15°C to +40°C
The customer had a special requirement for the end beams:
“One side of the main beam is rigidly fixed to the end beam. The second side of the main beam must be movable (on rollers) to compensate for irregularities under the crane track – that is, a center distance deviation of up to 30 mm over the entire track length.”
The Challenge – Old Plant, Uneven Track
In older factories, the supporting steel structure often settles or shifts over decades of use. The center distance of the rails varies along the travel direction – in this case from 11,980 mm to 12,030 mm.
A standard crane with rigid end beams on both sides would bind, skew, and even damage the rails and wheels. The solution? A movable end beam connection.
Our Engineering Solution – Non‑Standard End Beam Design
We designed and manufactured a custom end beam assembly that works perfectly even on uneven tracks:
Rigid side: One end beam is rigidly fixed to the main beam as standard.
Movable side: The other end beam is connected to the main beam via roller guides, allowing lateral movement of up to 30 mm.
This automatically compensates for span variations along the track, prevents binding, reduces wheel wear, and ensures smooth travel.
Additional Upgrades Beyond Standard
Because the customer’s workshop space is very limited, we also added several improvements that make daily operation quieter, more efficient, and more reliable:
Frequency inverter control for the main hoist – smooth acceleration and deceleration, reduced load swing, and longer mechanical life.
Upgraded electrical components – high-quality contactors, overload protection, and sealed electrical enclosures for better dust resistance.
Low noise, high efficiency – Compared to standard wire rope hoists or contactor-based two-speed controls, our solution runs significantly quieter – a major advantage in a crowded, narrow workshop.
All components rated for -15°C to +40°C – suitable for unheated warehouses in Central Asian winters.
